If you’ve ever felt like you’re shouting into the void with your art and no one’s listening, then let me tell you.. You are not alone.
That’s because, in a world of a million artists, it’s actually not enough to just have talent (which I know you’ve got in spades). In 2025 the strategy every artist needs to stand out, is a strong brand. One that makes people remember you, recognise you and most importantly - buy from you.
And no, I’m not just talking about a fancy logo or cute web design.
Your brand is so much more than that.
It’s your voice, your story and your vive. It’s the reason people stop scrolling and say “WHO is that and HOW can I give them my money”.
Without a solid brand, you become another artist lost in the noise.. and to be honest, your dream customers aren’t sticking around playing a game of "Where’s Wally?" to find you.
So, if we know building your brand is the ticket to growing your business in 2025, then how exactly do you do it?
Let’s break it down..
Step 1: Own Your Artistic Identity
Before you worry about logos or websites, let’s figure out what makes YOU different. Ask yourself:
What themes or messages show up in my art?
How do I want people to feel when they see my work?
What techniques or styles make my art uniquely mine?
What personal experiences shape my creative voice?
Your brand is built on these answers. And it should feel like YOU.. not like the other artist you saw blowing up on instagram last week. The more uniquely you, the better.
2: Create a Signature Look & Feel
Your brand should be visually consistent across everything you do. Here’s what to focus on:
Logo: Simple, recognizable, and reflective of your art style.
Colours Stick to a few signature colors that feel right for your brand.
Fonts: Choose fonts that match your vibe, and don’t flip flop them around every other week. We want people to recognise you without having to try too hard.
Everything else: Keep it cohesive - your portfolio, your IG grid, your website, even the way you write your emails. It should all feel like it’s coming from the same universe, so when people see your work, they just know it’s you.
The goal isn’t just for your brand to look good - it’s to create a presence so recognisable that your audience doesn’t have to play detective to know that it’s undeniably you.
Step 3: Tell Your Story
People don’t just buy art.. they buy from people. And sharing your story helps people feel like they know you, wanting in on the work you put out in the world. Here’s what to share:
Why you started creating.
The emotions and ideas behind your work.
A peek into your creative process.
Your struggles, wins, and the journey that got you here.
Put your story everywhere.. your website, social media, emails. Because you can’t overdo it. It’s the heartbeat of your brand, the thing that makes people connect with you, remember you, and keep coming back for more.
Step 4: Build an Online Presence That Works for You
Your brand should live where your audience hangs out, so focus on those platforms and ditch the rest. Here’s what I think works well for artists:
Website: A professional, easy-to-navigate site that showcases your work and makes buying easy.
Social Media: Pick 1-2 platforms that make sense for your audience (Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, etc.).
Email List: Start collecting emails NOW as it’s never too early and something you’ll only regret not doing sooner.
The Wrap Up
Building a brand isn’t just a nice to have - it’s a must if you want to get eyes on your business and stand out to your dream clients and customers as an artist.
But want to know the best bit? You don’t have to compete by being something you’re not. By showing up as your authentic self and building a brand that’s uniquely you, you set yourself apart in a way no one else can… because you are the one thing that can’t be replicated.
